  • Gordon Chin is Coming to Pork Chop House!

    Gordon Chin Pork Chop House

I guess I own porkchop house...Gordon asked me to set up a dinner at porkchop house as a booksigning and talk about his recent book, Building Community, Chinatown Style. I kinda sat on it for over a month and finally did the graphic for the event.

I've know Gordon probably since about 1968. I knew him through my involvement with the Chinatown North Beach Youth Council. He was involved in the community and just plain hanging around as we were all young back then. We were very idealistic as well. Fate has been kind to him. One thing after another led him to naturally form the Chinatown Community Development Center. The organization has been in existence for more than thirty five years now.

Gordon retired about 3-4 years ago and has written a book about his experience.

So the dinner is on August 22nd at Porkchop House. It's a no host dinner so please bring your wallet. Prime rib is going for $14.99. Gordon's book will be on sale for $20. He'll be signing them as well. I guess he'll be talking about his book.

  • Sitting Out of the Dumpling Wars

    10172602_10152308121001558_589891505269154636_n
We (WGUISFCT) were told to sit out this year's Dumpling Wars competition.

It is because we won the People's choice in 2012 and the Judges Choice in 2014. They said that our sitting out will level the playing field so that others can win. At first we didn't think much of it. But thinking about it, it's a pretty dumb rule.

What makes it a guarantee that we will win this year's competition? It's a competition. There is no guarantee that we will win this year just because we won the previous years. If you cannot make a good dumpling then you will not win. Who knows... maybe another team would have won the prize this year by making a better dumpling.

I mean if the 49'ers won the NFL division championship and then the Superbowl, should the 49'ers sit out the next football season so that a lesser able football team can win?

Is our exclusion from this year's dumpling wars so that a lesser team can win a lowering of the standards of the dumpling?

We should have sounded out earlier. But since I'm such a nice guy...we didn't.

Three weeks before the Dumpling Wars 3 they asked us if we wanted to join the competition. Why? Because a team dropped out. It just didn't feel right. First we were excluded from the competition now they're telling us they want us. Only because we a team dropped out. We decided to just sit back and relax.

By the way I am one of the judges this time. They also allowed our team to attend as guests.

    15 minute break

This is a pic of worker at Kome Seafood Buffet taking a break outside the restaurant.

Kome is an eat all you want buffet joint in Daly City. It's not really worthed. I just went to a dinner for a friend and it came out to $33. I can only usually eat three plates of food the most. That comes out to over $10 a plate. The food is pretty good but not great.

Then on top of that I got an upset stomach from there the last few times I've been there.
