  • 1st Draft -- Miss Teen Chinatown Poster

    Here's my first draft of the Miss Teen Chinatown poster which I agonized over for the last several weeks.

    I guess I agonized over it because it is for a girlie event and they're super straight too.

    The theme was dream.  So I settled on the concept of a girl dreaming to be Miss Teen Chinatown.

    Originally the crown was set on her head.  But I thought...it's a dream...the crown could be floating over her head.

    It took a lot of time rendering the crown.  At first I tried drawing it in photoshop.  I pulled an all nighter doing that and was not satisfied.

    I don't know how I thought of this one but I just used the circle marquee tool in photoshop and just traced the beads on a photo of a crown.

    I couldn't draw the girls head right with a brush.  So when I tried with the speedball nib, I got it on the first try.  Even the clouds and stars were done with a speedball B1 nib.

    This is the first draft and I'm waiting for the word with revisions.  I'm only being paid $150 for this.  I'm such a sucker.  But that's the nature of doing art in the community.
